To Do in Split — Your guide to Split

Split in June

June is the sweet spot: highs around 28 °C, a sea at about 22 °C, the longest days of the year and everything running. It is busy — the airport is already at three-quarters of its July traffic — so the first half of the month is the better bet.

Is June a good time to visit Split?

Yes — for a beach-and-boats trip it is the best month of the year, with one caveat about the second half. The sea is warm, the evenings are the longest of the year, and every boat, bar and beach is running. It is not quiet: Split Airport handled about 559,000 passengers in June 2026, roughly three-quarters of a July. Come in the first fortnight and you get most of the summer for a good deal less of the crowd.

Where to go: the best beaches in Split in summer.

What is open

  • Everything. Beach bars, clubs, boat trips, kayak and paddleboard rental, and every island konoba.

  • The state catamaran to Hvar town is on its summer timetable (29 May to 27 September in 2026), and the private seasonal lines are running too. Day trips to Hvar and Brač by fast boat are straightforward.

  • Krka moves to its €40 summer price for adults from 1 June — double May's.

Events in June

  • The Mediterranean Film Festival runs for ten days in mid-June — 11 to 20 June in 2026 — with open-air screenings at the Bačvice summer cinema, at Gripe fortress and at a free cinema in the Đardin park.

  • 22 June — Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, a public holiday.

  • Cruise ships are regular from now on. Split logged 37 cruise visits in June 2025, and on a ship day the palace is busiest between late morning and mid-afternoon.

A June day that works

June has the longest days of the year — at the solstice the sun rises at about 05:13 and sets at about 20:39, more than fifteen and a quarter hours of daylight. Use both ends. The sea is calm and the beaches empty before nine, the afternoon wind usually picks up after lunch, and the light on the Riva and at Sustipan is at its best in the last hour before sunset. A rest in the hottest part of the afternoon is not lazy here — it is how the day is built.

What to do in Split in June

Swim early and late, and keep the middle of the day for shade. The Blue Cave run, Hvar or Brač by boat, a sunset cruise, and picigin at Bačvice in the evening once the water is properly warm. On land, do the palace before ten and after six, when the cruise groups have gone.

What to book

Rooms well ahead, especially for the second half of the month. Boat trips a few days ahead — the small-boat Blue Cave trips sell out first, and they leave early because the afternoon wind roughens the sea. Restaurants you actually want, a day or two ahead.

Where these numbers come from: air temperature, rain and sunshine are the 1991–2020 climate normals for the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) station at Split-Marjan, 122 m up on Marjan hill, as published by the World Meteorological Organization through NOAA. A rain day is one with at least 1 mm. Sea temperature is the ten-year average for Split from seatemperature.info. Daylight and sunset are for the 15th of the month. Passenger figures are from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
