To Do in Split — Your guide to Split

Split in July

July is Split at full volume: highs of 31 °C, a sea at about 25 °C, the year's sunniest and driest weather, and the busiest month at the airport. Ultra Europe and the Split Summer Festival both fall in it. Great for the sea and the nights — hard work at midday.

Is July a good time to visit Split?

For the sea and the nightlife, yes. For a first look at the palace, it is the hardest month of the year. July is the busiest month at Split Airport — about 787,000 passengers in July 2025 — the hottest by daytime high, and the month two of the biggest events land. If you invert the day the way locals do — swim early, hide at midday, live from six until late — it works very well. If you try to sightsee at noon, it will not.

July weather in Split

At the DHMZ Split-Marjan station July averages a high of 31.0 °C and a low of 22.8 °C, so nights stay warm. About 21 days in an average July reach 30 °C. It is also the driest month — 25 mm of rain over about three days — and the sunniest, at nearly twelve hours a day. The afternoon maestral, a steady north-westerly sea breeze, usually picks up after lunch and makes the sea choppy, which is why the good boat trips leave early.

Can you swim in July?

Yes — the sea averages about 25 °C, with a ten-year range of roughly 21 °C to 28 °C. The town beaches are crowded from late morning, so swim before ten or after five, or walk west along Marjan to the coves under the pines.

Events in July

Ultra Europe takes over Park Mladeži, next to the Poljud stadium, for three nights, usually on the second weekend of July — 10 to 12 July in 2026. It is 18+ and very large, and the city fills accordingly: rooms, taxis and restaurants are all harder that weekend whether you are going or not.

Plan around it, or for it: Ultra Europe.

The Split Summer Festival runs from mid-July to mid-August — 14 July to 14 August in 2026 — with opera, theatre and concerts at venues around the palace. The 2026 edition opened with Verdi's Don Carlo on the Peristyle and staged 54 performances. An opera in the Peristyle, under the stars and in a Roman courtyard, is one of the best nights the city has.

Programme and tickets: the Split Summer Festival.

What is open

Everything, at full timetable. Fast boats to the islands run several times a day, and boat tours run daily. Krka is at its €40 summer price for adults, and like every inland sight it is far better first thing in the morning. Cruise ships call most days — Split logged 44 cruise visits in July 2025 — and the palace is at its fullest between about eleven and four.

What to do in Split in July

Morning swim, palace at eight, shade or a cellar museum at midday, back in the water at five, dinner after eight, and the night in the palace bars or along the Riva. If the heat gets to you, the Cetina canyon at Omiš is cooler and shaded, and rafting there is a good half-day.

For the evenings: things to do in Split at night.

To cool down: rafting on the Cetina.

What to book

Everything, earlier than feels necessary. Rooms months ahead, especially for the Ultra weekend. Catamaran tickets days ahead on popular sailings. Small-group boat trips several days ahead. Restaurants you care about, a day or two ahead. Summer Festival tickets as soon as the programme is out.

Where these numbers come from: air temperature, rain and sunshine are the 1991–2020 climate normals for the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) station at Split-Marjan, 122 m up on Marjan hill, as published by the World Meteorological Organization through NOAA. A rain day is one with at least 1 mm. Sea temperature is the ten-year average for Split from seatemperature.info. Daylight and sunset are for the 15th of the month. Passenger figures are from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
